If you're ready to get the sound that your tube amp is capable of, then you need the AmpRx Backline 1200 voltage attenuator.
The standard modern outlet should be providing 120V AC to devices and equipment, but in reality, that is almost never the case. Your geographic location and even what time of day it is can vary the voltage greatly. Most of the time you will receive anywhere from 120V to 129V. That is NOT good for your tube amplifier, OR your ears.
Depending on your tube amplifier, a Backline 1200 user might find that their gear runs optimally at 116-118V, or maybe even as low as 108-110V for some vintage gear. It is certainly impossible for an amplifier designed for 110V or 120V to sound or operate anywhere near the way it should at 129V.
We are so sold on the AmpRx product line, that the BrownBox is a mandatory accessory when purchasing our WNQ amplifier. We find the amplifier's happy voltage spot, and simply bias to that permanently repeatable voltage.
The Backline 1200 comes to the rescue, and features variable voltage reduction options that let you bring your power input down to your amplifiers optimal level, resulting in significantly improved, stable, and repeatable amplifier performance.
All tube amps (especially vintage tube amps) are designed to run at an optimal voltage, and standard 120V/AC wall current is typically too high for vintage tube amps, as well as some modern designs. With its proprietary 10-amp transformer and flexible attenuation options, the Backline 1200 brings that current down to an optimal level for significantly improved performance. The rack mountable Backline accommodates three tube amplifiers, making it ideal for musicians who run amplifiers in a live-in rack case. The Backline 1200 is also great for bass players who need lots of overhead for their power-consuming rigs.
